How did the policy of appeasement affect France and Great Britain?

By adopting the Policy of Appeasement, Both Britain and France hoped to avoid war with Germany by allowing it to take territory from Czechoslovakia.  Still Germany continued its campaign by invading Poland and this led to the Second World War.
