 An oversimplification differs from generalization because it omits important information and thus lead to conclusions that do not reflect all the sources.
Oversimplification is an extreme form of presenting information, as it leave out factors, that could otherwise have contributed to the coherence of the whole. Generalization considers more factors on the other hand.
