Life would have been very different for different members of Spanish society throughout the empire. The aristocrats were in charge of everything and accustomed to a life of privilege provided by citizens of lower rank and peons. The peons were usually the Native Indians and mestizo people of the "new world". The lower classes were 2nd and 3rd class citizens, with the Indians being practically slaves.

That's the answer. Enjoy.
