f(x) is another way to write y. So we have y = 6x - 8. To find the inverse, switch the x and the y and solve for the new y. Switching gives us x = 6y - 8. We add 8 to both sides to give us 6y = x + 8. Divide both sides by 6 gives us the inverse as [tex] y=\frac{1}{6}x+\frac{4}{3} [/tex]. That is reduced, of course, but that's your inverse!
