Plug in -3 for b, and 2 for a

2^3 - (-3)^2

Remember to always follow PEMDAS. First, do the exponents

2^3 = 2 x 2 x 2 = 8

(-3)^2 = -3 x -3 = 9

Subtract

8 - 9 = -1

-1 is your answer

hope this helps
