first divide the two sides of the equation by 3 to make it simpler:

[tex] \frac{3}{3} (6+8x)= \frac{3}{3} (6x+1)[/tex]

[tex]6 + 8x= 6x+1[/tex]

substract the two sides from 6x + 1:

[tex]6 + 8x - (6x + 1)= 6x+1 - (6x + 1)[/tex]

[tex]6 + 8x - 6x - 1= 6x+1 - 6x - 1[/tex]

[tex]5 + 2x = 0[/tex]

substract the two sides from 5:

[tex]2x = - 5[/tex]

divide by 2:

[tex]x = - \frac{5}{2} [/tex]
