What does the prefix -inter mean?

The prefix, "inter-" means something along the lines of "between", "mutually", "reciprocally", etc. To remember this, think of the words "interest" which is something you could mutually take a liking to with somebody else, or the word "intercept" which in football would be for you to come in between the opposing player and the ball.
