According to Greek mythology, Cerberus was the dog of Hades.

It was a giant three-headed monstrous dog, with a tail serpent and had many serpent heads on its back, its mission was to protect the doors of the Greek underworld to prevent the living souls from entering without asking permission to the death and prevent the dead souls to leave the place.
