What was the greatest impact of the Panama Canal?

The united states benefitted greatly from the panama canal.  The government purchased the canal use at a low price.  and it made trade from the east and west better.  The  panama people in turn got better health forms from us.  We did not allow the panama people to work the canal, instead the military did.

It tremendously reduced the travel time between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
