Step-by-step explanation:

Let the no. of quarters be x

Then no. of nickels = 72-x

Total value of the quarters present in the jar

=$ 0.25x

Total value of the nickels present in the jar

=$ 0.05(72-x)

Total value of the coins = $12.60

0.25x+0.05(72-x)= 12.60

0.25x + 3.6-0.05x= 12.60

0.2x= 12.60-3.6

0.2x= 9

x=9/0.2

x= 45

Therefore, the jar contains 45 quarters and

the jar contains =72-45= 27 nickels
