1/4(2x - 14) = 4....distribute through the parenthesis
2/4x - 14/4 = 4...multiply by 4 to get rid of fractions (this is optional)
2x - 14 = 16...add 14 to both sides
2x = 16 + 14
2x = 30...divide by 2
x = 30/2
x = 15
