First, add 12 to both sides of the equation,
                            -3y - 12 + 12 = -4 + 12
                                -3y = 8
Then, divide both the left hand and right hand sides of the equation by -3
                                   (-3y) / -3 = 8/-3
The value of y is therefore,
                                         y = -8/3
