What were the strengths of the Declaration of Independence? What were some weaknesses?

The declaration is just a document expressing their intentions, this is illegitimate to the British crown, they were unwilling to accept their independence, and had it not been for the support for the revolution, the document would have remained a weak, unaccepted document. Americans ability to defend their declaration strengthened the document.
