why are the media more influential in public options today then in the past

Simple answer: They have a larger platform. People go on the internet and read articles all the time across the globe for free. That didn’t used to exist and the words would be spread slower and less effectively through papers and conversation. When more people see something it’s more influential but when very few select see it, it’s less influential.
