The most important character of The Collector by John Fowle is Ferdinand Clegg.

I'll explain, from what I know of the book is that Ferdinand watches an art student(Miranda Grey) and the kidnaps her to give her love and attention until she loves him.

Most actions are caused and based on Ferdinand and Miranda makes the effect.
