Atmosphere keeps the heat trapped coming from sun hence maintaining the temperature even in night hours.

At day time temperature of the moon reaches to 100 degree C, where as in night time it drops to minus. Due to absence of atmosphere the temperature is not controlled and heat is not even trapped with in the surface that causes this drop of temperature during night times.
