to get the value of x, we need to isolate it. to do that, use the opposite functions to “get rid of” a number. so:
z = 9x - y
add y to both sides
z + y = 9x
divide by 9
(z + y)/9 = x

x = (z + y)/9
(x equals z plus y divided by 9)
