Answer: In October 1901, Annie Taylor, a schoolteacher, became the first person and woman to go over the Horseshoe Falls in a barrel.

She made her journey in a barrel made of oak and held together by iron hoops. It had padding on the inside. The barrel was towed out from Grass Island and released. It then floated to the Canadian side and over the Horseshoe Falls.
