2l - 2w = 4 → (3)

add (1) and (3) term by term to eliminate w

4l = 56 ( divide both sides by 4 )

l = 14

substitute l  14 into either of the 2 equations and solve for w

substituting into (1)

2(14) + 2w = 52

28 + 2w = 52 ( subtract 28 from both sides )

2w = 24 ( divide both sides by 2 )

w = 12
