Step-by-step explanation:

x = speed of hiker1

because they meet, between the 2 of them, together they cover 15 miles in 2 hours.

2×x + 2×(x + 2.7) = 15

2x + 2x + 5.4 = 15

4x = 9.6

x = 2.4 mph

so one hiker was going 2.4 mph,

the other 2.4 + 2.7 = 5.1 mph.
