lets assume those two numbers are x and y
then according to the question x*y= -48---------1
  and sum x+y= -8--------------------2

y= - 48/x from eq 1
put this value in eq 2
x - 48/x= -8
x^2 - 48= -8x
x^2+8x-48=0
x^2+12x-4x-48=0   factorized it
x^2-4x+12x-48=0
x(x-4)+12(x-4)=0

(x+12)(x-4)=0

so x= -12 ,x=4

put those values in eq1
x*y= -48
-12*y= -48
y=4

if u put x=4 then u will get y= - 12
