Why was the NAACP significant to African Americans?

The NAACP stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It played a very important part in the civil rights movement. At the time of its establishment, African Americans were going through difficult times with civil rights and equality. So, this association had defended the rights of the colored people.
