The Quotient of Powers Rule helps to simplify exponents.

That is, If our expression is [tex]\frac{a^m}{a^n}[/tex]

Then after applying Quotient of Powers Rule,

We can write, [tex]\frac{a^m}{a^n}=a^{m-n}[/tex]

Here our expression, 2 to the fifth power over 8 = [tex]\frac{ 2 ^5}{8}[/tex]

= [tex]\frac{ 2 ^5}{2^3}[/tex]

= [tex]2^{5-3}[/tex] ( By applying quotient of power rule)

= [tex]2^{2}[/tex]

= 4
