The Indian Government provides a free education for all children age 6-14. Specifically, this is supported by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan or The Education for All Movement, which  provides not only education, but also school uniforms, books and meals at schools for all the children. This is especially important in a country with extreme poverty - for many children the meal at school is a big contribution to their daily diet (sometimes even the only meal they have).
