H2O, NaCl and CO2 are in different phases at room temperature as a result of their boiling, melting, and freezing point. The temperature required to freeze or boil a compound is a result of their intermolecular forces within their bonds. The stronger the bond, the harder it is to break it apart, which is what causes it to transform into a gas.
