6x − 2 /4 = x − 2

(6x - 2) / 4 = x - 2...multiply both sides by 4, cancelling the 4 on the left
6x - 2 = 4(x - 2)....distribute
6x - 2 = 4x - 8 ...subtract 4x from both sides, add 2 to both sides
6x - 4x = -8 + 2...simplify
2x = - 6 ..divide both sides by 2
x = -6/2....reduce
x = -3 <==
