In the state of washington, the western portion of the state receives far more rainfall than the eastern portion of the state. what accounts for this stark contrast?

Storms come in from the Pacific Ocean and are trapped on the western slopes of the Cascades and so the rain is trapped on this side of the state. Eventually it moves over the mountains,losing moisture and sparing the East side of rain.
