What role does the oxidation agent play in a redox reaction

The oxidizing agent receives electrons from the reducing agent.  Keep in mind that the reducing agent is the element in an oxidation-reduction reaction that gives an electron to another species. And since the reducing agent always loses its electrons, it is considered to call its condition 'oxidized'.
