South Carolina. Rice was first grown in 1860. Both crops used lots of slaves which promoted the slave trade and ownership in the state. The Civil War and Reconstruction seriously damaged the cultivation and production of rice and indigo. Hope this helps! Please let me know if I'm wrong :)
