In this case we have to have a common denominator in order to compare to the two fractions.
[tex] \frac{1}{2} = \frac{x}{12} [/tex] We know that 2 × 6= 12
So multiply the numerator and denominator by 6
[tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex] × [tex] \frac{6}{6} = \frac{6}{12} [/tex]
Therefore, the amount of honey needed is [tex] \frac{6}{12} [/tex] teaspoons
So in total 6 bees are needed to make [tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex] teaspoons of honey because we know that [tex] \frac{6}{12} [/tex] is the same as half
