Right receptor protein on the surface of the target cell or in cell plasma is required. There are three major types of receptors in cell:
1. Channel receptors- neurotransmitters.
2. Receptor tyrosine kinases-protein expression
3. G protein coupled receptors-detect substances outside the cell
