Urinary
retention - the inability to urinate - is a common post-operative
complication, and can have serious ramifications for patients. Most
specifically, this condition, if allowed to persist, can cause damage to the
bladder, as urine builds up in the organ to dangerously high levels. Retained
urine can also lead to infections, which can cause systemic issues in
patients.
