Hexanoyl Chloride on treatment with excess Ethyl Magnesium Bromide yields tertiary Alcohol. In this reaction Hexanoyl chloride is first converted into intermediate ketone (Octane-3-one), secondly the ketone formed is further reduced to tert. Alcohol (3-Ethyloctan-3-ol), The reaction along with mechanism is shown below,
