How do you find the slant height for Pythagorean theorem?

a^2 + b^2 = c^2
or
(leg 1)^2 + (leg 2)^2 = (hypotenuse leg)^2

basically when you add the squares of the two shorter legs of the triangle, you get the hypotenuse squared.
